Contributing to Society and the Environment

SDB Bank has always recognised the role a leading institution such as the Bank plays in the communities and has initiated and supported many CSR projects that contribute not only to society but also to the environment.

Lakdaru grade 5 scholarship seminar series

The annual SDB Bank Grade 5 Scholarship Seminar series was organised for students who sat for the Grade 5 Scholarship Examination in 2018. The seminar series was sponsored by SDB Lakdaru Children’s Account and was held island-wide in both Sinhala and Tamil mediums. The first seminar of the scholarship seminar series for year 2018 was held on 20 January 2018 at Keppetipola Vidyalaya, Maha Oya.

Blind musical orchestra

The Bank sponsored the Musical Show organised by the Blind Musical Orchestra.

Blood donation

In line with 21st Anniversary, the Welfare Society of the Bank organised a blood donation campaign on 21 August 2018, for the patients at Apeksha Hospital, Maharagama.

Donation of bio gas unit

The Bank sponsored the newly established bio gas unit at the Sri Abhinawarama Temple, a place that caters to the needs of nearly 1,000 pilgrims visiting Kataragama during the season.

Donation of multi media projector

In line with the 21st Anniversary, SDB Bank handed over a Multimedia Projector to the Konewewa Maha Vidyalaya, Mahapothana.

Donation of reading books

The Bank sponsored Karaththa Kavi story books that were published in line with Children’s Day.

Neelaharitha project

The State Ministry of Defence together with SDB Bank launched the green initiative “Neelaharitha Project”, which is aimed at contributing to the Government vision of empowering retired military personnel from the Tri-forces, the civil security, and police force.

While profitable operation of the Bank is vital, SDB Bank is actively involved in a vital community related role that exemplifies the corporate social responsibility of a leading business institution and sets them apart in the rural environment in which they primarily operate.

  • SDB Bank, in collaboration with ADIC Sri Lanka, organised a Jawaya Youth camp for young entrepreneurs from 23 to 25 February 2018 at Kegalle SANASA campus.
  • SLIDA’S school of Postgraduate Studies organised a series of public lectures with a view to enhance the managerial capacity of executives in Sri Lanka’s public and private sectors. This lecture was held on 20 September 2018 at SLIDA in collaboration with SDB Bank.

 

CSR Activities

Nelum Mal Pooja

SDB started off the new year with the Annual Lotus Flower offering and Kiri Ahara Pooja at the sacred sites of Sri Maha Bodhi and Ruwanweli Stupa on the first weekend of January. The event was organized by the SANASA Federation, and a large number of people representing SDB bank, SANASA societies and general public participated in the offering.

The annual SDB Grade 5 Scholarship Seminar series was organized for students who sat for the Grade 5 Scholarship Examination in 2018. The seminar series was sponsored by SDB Lakdaru Children’s Account and was held island-wide in both Sinhala and Tamil mediums.

Model examination papers designed by a panel of expert lecturers targeting Grade 5 scholarship exams were discussed while an awareness program for the parents was organized on attitudes and child philosophy at the same location in parallel to the seminar.

International Women’s Day Celebration

Celebrating International Women’s Day, SDB organized a special event themed “Wenasa Api Wemu” on 8th of March, 2018 at ‘at Royal College, Nawa Ragahala, Colombo

Lakdaru Bodhi Pooja

SDB bank took measures to conduct a Bhodi Pooja at the premises of Kelaniya Raja Maha Viharaya 3rd August 2018, to invoke blessings on the Grade 5 students prior to the Scholarship exam. All children facing the grade 5 scholarship examination in year 2018 were invited to take part in the Bhodi Pooja.

Blind Musical Orchestra

SDB bank sponsored the Musical Show organized by the Blind Musical Orchestra. The musical show was organized for the 9th time and was held on 30th August 2018 at S.De.A.Jayasinghe Hall, Dehiwala.

Blood Donation

In line with 21st Anniversary, Welfare Society of SDB bank organized a blood donation campaign on 21st August 2018, for the patients at Apeksha Hospital, Maharagama. Ms. Samadanie Kiriwandeniya - Chairperson, Mr. Nimal C. Hapuarachchi - GM/CEO, Management and staff members participated for this commendable feat. SDB customers, Officers of other private and government institutions and area residents were present at the event.

Donation of Bio Gas Unit

SDB bank carried out another exemplary sustainable energy initiative at the Sri Abhinawarama temple in Kataragama. The bank sponsored the newly established bio gas unit at the Sri Abhinawarama Temple, a place that caters to the needs of nearly 1,000 pilgrims visiting Kataragama during the season. The newly installed bio gas unit was officially handed over to the maha sangha on 20th July in the presence of Mrs. D. S. Padmakulasooriya - District Secretary, Monaragala, Mr Sameera D Liyanage - Head of Marketing & Retail Banking, SDB bank, Mr P D Dhammika - Head of Co-operative, SDB bank, Mr K B Ratnayake - Uva Regional Manager, SDB bank and other guests

Donation of Multi Media Projector

In line with 21st Anniversary, SDB bank handed over a Multimedia Projector to the Konewewa Maha Vidyalaya, Mahapothana Principle - Lambapothane Sumanasiri Thero. The school situated in the Anuradhapura District accommodates 300 students. An event was organized by the school on 7th September 2018 with the participation of Head of Marketing - Mr Sameera Liyanage, North Central Regional Manager - Mr Surandika Wimalarathna and Representative of Kahatagasdigiliya from Zonal Education.

Donation of Reading Books

SDB bank initiated the CSR project by sponsoring Karaththa Kavi books to Ruhunu Magam Pathuwe Chief Adikara Sanganayake Kapugama Saranathibidana Nayake Thero and to Mrs D.S Padma Kulasooriya - District Secretary, Monaragala. This was held on 20th July 2018 at the Sri Abhinawarama Temple at Kataragama. Karaththa Kavi story book was published in line with Children’s Day, where as it was approved and recommended by the Ministry of Education to be kept in Libraries. These books consist of traditional stories and was given to the temple to be read during daham pasal and was handed over to Mrs D.S. Padma Kulasooriya (District Secretary, Monaragala) to be kept in pre-school libraries which is situated in Monaragala area.

SDB bank as a part of its Green initiative, organized a CSR cultivation project to plant 1,000 plants on Saturday, 29th December 2018 at Molkawa, Bulathsinhala. “ReForest Sri Lanka”, which organizes long term sustainable tree planting projects, together with SDB bank’s IT Department organized this event. The East Paragoda Grama Niladari Division, Bulathsinhala Divisional Secretariat and Water supply and drainage board actively extended their support towards this event. SDB bank sponsored this initiative and staff of the Bank were seen actively and joyfully participating in the tree planting activities throughout the day.

Ranaviru Flag Pinning Ceremony at SDB Bank - In line with the National Ranaviru Commemoration month in May, SDB Bank actively participated in the flag pinning event as a CSR initiative. In order to pay gratitude to the war heroes who sacrificed their lives for the motherland, the annual commemoration month of war heroes was declared by the government.
